Third go at Panera. This time it’s after the early AM rush. I was expecting a level of service faster than previous visits. Quite wrong. I don’t know what is with this place but I know it’s not economy of scale. Poor training seems to be the biggest culprit as the clerks still stumble around the register UI. 3.5 minutes waiting in line to get a cup of coffee is ridiculous.

Did some great reading last night. The geniuses at 37 Signals (RoR fame) have a brilliant whitepaper/ebook on their development practices called Getting Real. It is written in a straightforward, no BS manner that is a refreshing departure from most of the old school practices. $19 is a drop in the bucket compared to the value of learning from their experiences. I highly encourage anyone focused on bringing ideas to life to give this a read.
